Health and fitness are extremely important to everyone, regardless of age.  Maplewood and South Orange offer a full range of health screenings and fitness classes specifically for seniors.  

 Health Departments
The local health departments have a wealth of resources and information to help residents live healthier lives.  Each town holds regular health screenings that are free and open to all adult residents. 

Regularly scheduled  screenings are:

South Orange
Monthly Blood Pressure Clinics
3rd Thursday of every month
9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the Baird Center (at 5 Mead Street)

Maplewood offers adult health screenings, medication counseling, blood pressure, carotid bruit and diabetes risk screenings at three locations.  Drop-ins welcome.  For an appointment call (973) 762-8120 x 4300.

Durable Medical Equipment
Do you need durable medical equipment? Maplewood Public Health Division has durable medical equipment on loan at Town Hall available for residnets of both South orange and Maplewood. If you  in need:

  • Wheelchairs
  • Roller walkers with seats
  • Crutches
  • Bath benches
  • Commodes 

This equipment is FREE and on loan, to help residents in transition and on the road to recovery from an injury or chronic illness.  Please contact the Maplewood Public Health Division at (973) 762-8120 x4300 or x4200.
