Maplewood Township Senior Transportation
Maplewood provides transportation for Maplewood seniors 65+ to local areas and shopping areas. To sign up for a ride, call 973-763-5287.
South Orange and Maplewood residents can ride the commuter jitneys for a small fee as they make the morning and evening routes. Commuter jitneys follow designated routes to and from the train stations, from approximately 6:00am - 9:00am and 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Essex County Services
For residents 60+, Essex County provides free, handicap accessible transportation for people with Medicare to all towns within the county. Call (973) 618-1280 to register and set up an appointment. Once you are in the system, you can begin scheduling rides. Service is from 8am – 3 pm. The service needs at least 3 days notice, but can set up rides up to 30 days in advance.
Logisticare provides non-emergency transportation for Medicaid clients going to doctor's appointments. To schedule a ride, you must call 2 days prior with your Medicaid ID #, your date of birth and time of trip. Call (866) 527-9933

On Demand Car Service is a growing trend for transportation, such as Uber or Lyft. These require smart phones and can be set up as individual accounts. If you do not have a smart phone, two senior-friendly options are available that will act as the intermediary in finding you a pre-screened driver to take you where ever you need to go:

Hurricane/Tropical Storm IDA
Governor Murphy announced a partnership with Uber and Lyft to provide free and discounted rides to NJ residents who lost a personal vehicle due to Hurricane Ida. If you need a ride to an essential service, text NJIDARIDE to 898-211 or dial 2-1-1.
