looking for conversation over a cup of tea or coffee? Want to participate in workshops, listen to presentations, or attend educational lectures designed with you and your peers in mind? Come to the
Senior Lounge at the Baird in South Orange, almost every Thursday from
12–2 p.m.
The Baird
has always welcomed people of all ages to meet in a multigenerational setting and participate in recreational activities. While there is great value in interacting with people of different generations and learning from one another, there is also something special about spending time with peers who share similar experiences, interests, and stages of life. That belief led to the creation of the Senior Lounge.
The Senior Lounge meets weekly at the Baird Community Center and welcomes everyone 55 and older from South Orange and surrounding communities. The program is offered through the South Orange Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.
During its first year, the Lounge grew from simply providing a place for seniors to meet, talk, play games, or socialize into a vibrant program featuring educational presentations, lectures, discussions, and group activities. During the summer of 2026, members also gathered at the South Orange Pool for book and movie discussions, swimming, and time outdoors.
After Labor Day
the Senior Lounge will return indoors to the Baird with a full schedule of programs. Upcoming topics include a question-and-answer session with South Orange Mayor Sheena Collum, improvisation exercises designed to build confidence in everyday life, discussions about spirituality and aging, and another special visit from puppies from The Seeing Eye program.
These are just a few of the exciting programs on the agenda.
Everyone age 55 and older is invited to join us on Thursdays from 12–2 p.m. Bring your ideas, your questions, or simply yourself—and come meet your neighbors and make new connections.
